Veterinarians in Alberta, Canada are upset over teeth cleaning services being offered for pets. Vets say the anesthetic-free teeth cleaning for dogs and cats is actually unsafe.
The tooth cleaning businesses claim the services are judt hygienic and fight bad breath, and not intended to replace the services offered by vets. Vets claim these businesses, which charge around $230.00 to scale and polish an animals teeth are practicing without a license.
Dogs need work under their gum line and only a vet can do that, but once the animal is sedated. Cease and desist orders were sent to five businesses so far.
They are also planning to launch a public awareness campaign to put a stop to the unregulated cleaning services.
